While World War II rages in Europe, Carla Murdock works her way through the rigors of Radcliffe College. The worst fate befalls her father, and she must now deal with his death in Germany. Due to this shock and a recent illness, the Dean decides Carla needs rest and sends her to her appointed guardian - Regan Laird, who had been in her father's unit, wounded, and recently returned to the States. With the arrival of another of her father's compatriots, Carla learns her father was murdered. She remembers other recent disturbing events, and concludes the killer is now after her or something she possesses. This story is included in THE THREE WOMEN.
